Hawaiian Ham Sandwiches!
By: Kecia’s Flavor Breakthrough!
I love those little Hawaiian dinner rolls, so sweet and soft! I found them in Sandwich roll size at the store today! What a great idea that popped in my idea for dinner tonight! I also had this wonderful pre-sliced ham in the refrigerator, sweet salty! Yummy!
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 2 tsps. Water or broth
- 1 pound ham, sliced
- 4 fresh pineapple rings
- 8 slices of Fontina or Havarti cheese
- 4 Hawaiian sandwich rolls
In a skillet over medium low heat, place olive oil and onions. Cook until onion becomes translucent, add salt, sugar and water. Continue to cook slowly until onion becomes very soft and turns a caramel color.
Preheat grill to medium. Take slices of ham and pineapple rings and place them on the grill. Grill just a couple minutes on each side.
Place buns on a piece of aluminum foil.
Place a slice of cheese on the bottom of each bun. Next place the ham, a pineapple ring.
Some of the onion and the other slice of cheese. Put the top of the bun on, wrap in foil and place on the top rack of the grill for just about five minutes or until cheese is melted and rolls are warm.
Cut in half and serve hot. Tonight I am serving with Grilled Sweet Potato Wedges.
