Classic Ground Beef Stew!
By: Kecia’s Flavor Breakthrough!
January is almost finished, but it is going out with an icy cold blast! Of course that means I must make a nice, hearty and hot stew to warm us all up! I have ground beef in the fridge and I haven’t made a hearty stew in a while. I know my Honey is going to love this one, full of meat and potatoes. Yummy!
Serves 8
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef (I use the leanest)
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 stalks of celery, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ cup flour
- 3 medium red potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 1 cup frozen cut green beans
- ½ cup corn kernels
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp. Heinz 57 sauce (my mamma’s secret ingredient)
- 1 tsp. oregano
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp. ground savory
- 1 tsp. Sage
- ½ cup peas
- 2 tsp. kosher salt
- Pepper to taste
In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium high heat, breaking apart as it cooks. Drain and add back to the pot. Add the onion, carrots and celery. Cook until onion becomes slightly translucent. Stir in the garlic and flour. Stir until the flour coats everything. This is to thicken the stew as it cooks. Add the balance of the ingredients. Bring up to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes or until veggies are tender. Serve with some warm crusty bread!
I am sharing this recipe with my daughters as I know they will love it! So easy, hearty and a great way to get in your veggies!
