Brat and Slaw Hoagies
By Kecia’s Flavor Breakthrough!
Now I totally planned a casserole tonight with the brats I pulled out of the freezer. Don’t worry, I wrote up a delicious recipe that will appear in the future. But, for now! The weather is kind of nice tonight so I scrapped the casserole idea for tonight and decided I might like to grill. As the weather gets warmer I start thinking of summer foods and grilling! I love to grill! So the casserole will wait, but it will be great when I get to it!! I hope you all enjoy this as much as my family did!
Serves 4 – 6 depending on how hungry my guys are!
1 package coleslaw blend
1 cup of your favorite coleslaw dressing, or homemade of course
1 package of your favorite hoagie rolls, or homemade of course
1 package Johnsonville Stadium Brats
1 onion sliced
1 tbsp olive oil
6 slices Swiss cheese
In a large bowl combine coleslaw blend with dressing and mix until completely blended. Set aside. Of course if you have a favorite slaw recipe, please use that. I just needed to be fast tonight so I took a little shortcut!
Preheat grill to medium heat. Place sliced onion and oil on a sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil.
Fold up to create a packet. Place packet on top rack of grill.
Turn after 5 minutes, place brats on grill turn every 2 to three minutes until completely heated, total time 7 – 9 minutes. Continue to flip onion pack every couple of minutes as well. Leave grill on. On a sheet of foil or a grill grate, place buns slightly open, put a sausage on each bun.
Top with some onions.
Then a slice of cheese.
Place back in grill for 2 – 3 minutes until cheese is melted.
Top with a scoop of the coleslaw and serve with salad, more slaw and/or some chips and a pickle!
