Beer Cheese Pub Burgers!

OK… I am so addicted to these pretzel rolls after one of my past recipes for Steak and Cheese Melts. I had to come up with another great sandwich or burger fast for them! I am sure this one won’t be the last either. I think I have told you how much my guys like a good burger, too! Well I guess it is time for a new one. I am so excited about this one! This one will feature the pretzel roll and a new recipe for beer cheese sauce! If you enjoy a good juicy, super flavorful and saucy burger THIS IS FOR YOU!

Serves 4



  • 4 pretzel rolls
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large sweet onions, sliced thin
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup beer of your choice (a darker one is better)
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 2 tbsp. flour
  • ½ cup of the same beer of your choice
  • ½ cup cream
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. cracked black pepper
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  •  Seedy Brown Mustard (I like Grey Poupon Course Ground) to taste

Form ground beef into 4 patties, season with salt and pepper and set aside.


In a large skillet heat the olive oil over medium low heat. Add the onions and cook until they become slightly translucent, stirring often so not to burn.

Add Beer

Add salt, sugar and ¼ cup of the beer and continue cooking and stirring until onions become soft and a beautiful caramel color.

Preheat your grill to medium heat. Place burgers on grill. Cook five minutes, then flip… cook another five minutes. Depending on how you like your burgers continue to flip and cook two minutes at a time until done.


Meanwhile in a sauce pan, heat butter until it melts over medium heat. Stir in flour until combined.

Beer Sauce

Slowly whisk in the rest of the beer until it is smooth and not lumpy.

Add Cream

Add the cream, salt, garlic, pepper and onion powder.

Now Cheese

Heat until mixture become hot, whisk in cheese slowly

Beer Cheese Sauce

until creamy and smooth and it thickens to desired consistency.

Assemble the burger

Spread some mustard on bun, place burgers on buns, top with some onion and cheese sauce. If desired sprinkle with a little more shredded Swiss cheese.

Closed Burger

Serve hot.
