I am really trying to expand into doing more dessert recipes. The problem is I really don’t do a lot of baking as I have said before. That being said, there are a lot of apples out on that tree still so I thought I would try to make a new dessert for you with them. I love apples this time of year! Ours weren’t as pretty as they were last year, but they still make great pies, etc.
This recipe is kind of inspired from when I used to take my son to the pizza buffet and they would have apple dessert pizza. I am sure though, that this will be even better using the apples from our tree! Hopefully you enjoy it. AND it was easy; I had all of the ingredients in my pantry except the apples. I am sure this recipe could use any seasonal fruit you have in your region, berries, peaches, pears would all be good in it!
1 Pizza crust (my preferred recipe)
4 – 5 medium tart apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
¾ cup sugar, divided
1 tbsp. ground cinnamon, divided
1 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. kosher salt
1 tbs. butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1/8 cup water
Prepare pizza crust as directed.
While dough is rising, mix apples, ½ cup of sugar, 2 tsp. cinnamon, flour allspice and salt in a bowl, let rest until dough is ready.
Preheat oven to 375* F
Spray cookie sheet (I used my pizza pan) or use parchment paper. Press or roll dough out in a circle big enough for a 12” pizza.
Place apple mixture on one side of the dough, leaving a 1 in edge. Dot with the cold butter.
Fold the dough over to cover apples and press edges together. Next, roll edges up and press to seal.
Mix together rest of sugar and cinnamon in a shaker. Shake over the top of the calzone. Cut a few slits to vent.
Bake 20 – 30 minutes until crust is browned. Remove from oven and let cool. Mix water and powdered sugar together.
Drizzle over the cooled calzone. Slice into 6 slices and serve.
