Italian Sausage and Basil Pizza!

This pizza was totally inspired by one of the Naan Snack Pizza’s I made! That pizza rocked! It was so good I had to make a full size version of it for the guys! (I might try to sneak a piece, too!) If you are looking for a change from a traditional tomato sauce pizza that uses some might tasty, fresh ingredients, this is for you! I can’t wait to make this! I decided that I would write this up with my usual crust recipe, but I think I will be using (4) Naan bread again tonight. I am short on time! But truly, this pizza is great on any crust, traditional, flat bread even a crusty French Bread!
Prep Time: 1 hour with homemade crust, 15 minutes with pre-made crust Cook Time: 30 minutes homemade crust, 10 minutes pre-made crust
- 1 Pizza crust (My favorite recipe)
- ½ pound ground Italian sausage, browned and drained
- 1 cup fresh basil, julienned
- ¼ red onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 2 cups shredded Mozzarella
- Italian seasoning
Preheat oven to 375° F
Prepare crust as directed and place on pizza pan or stone. I like to pre-bake my crust for a little crispiness for about 10 – 15 minutes until it just starts to brown slightly.
Top with some yummy shredded mozzarella cheese!
Sprinkle the sausage and basil.
Add the onion on top. Drizzle with the olive oil, not too much, just a touch! Sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
Bake for an additional 10 – 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly and crust is nicely browned.
Let stand for 5 minutes before slicing into eight slices. Serve with a nice green salad. Did I mention, this pizza ROCKS???
