Apple Pear Tarts!
By: Kecia’s Flavor Breakthrough!
I know I will probably hear about it, but as you all know I am not a baker! NOT a baker… sure, I can cook up a storm, but baking? Nope! I also try not to use too many prepackaged foods, but I do love these premade pie crusts. However as you know, you can always make your own from scratch! I also am excited about this recipe because I get to use a new toy my Honey got me for Christmas, LAST year. I have been waiting until our apples were done to use it, he got me the fantastic gadget called, the Apple Master! Have you ever seen this thing? It is so fun! I am such a kid! So, I had been waiting for our apples and we didn’t get too many, but I also have a few pears out there, too. So I thought I could use both and make these little simple tarts with them.
Serves 8 to 12, depending on how big your slices are
- 2 pie crusts
- 4 medium size apples
- 2 medium sized pears
- ½ cup sugar (I want it a little sweet)
- Juice from one lemon
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp allspice
- 1 tbsp. butter
- Topping another tbsp. sugar and ½ tsp cinnamon (you don’t need to use it all)
Peel, slice and core your apples and pears.
place in a large bowl.
Mix in sugar, lemon juice, salt, flour, cinnamon and allspice. Set aside for about a half hour for juices to start to form. Stir again. Mix the rest of the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl and set aside.
Preheat oven to 350*F. Place parchment paper on a large cookie sheet. Lay on crust on one side of the cookie sheet. Place half of the fruit mixture in the center of the first crust. Dot with half the butter.
Gently fold the edges of the crust over the fruit leaving the center open. Sprinkle some of the cinnamon sugar over the top of the tart. Repeat steps with the second crust.
Place in oven and bake for 30 – 45 minutes or until the crusts turn a golden brown. Let cool. Cut into 4 to 6 slices each tart. Serve with ice cream.
